Microplastics – Impacts and Solution

Microplastics are now said to be found in our tap water and our food.

We look at their impact on us and the planet, as well as a solution that everyone can adopt.

The Problem

“Microplastics are everywhere, so they may be in the tap water they are using in production.”

Several recent studies, some of which were featured on a recent Channel 4, ‘Food Unwrapped’ program, highlighted the global problem of microplastics.

They also discovered that microplastics can be found in tap water, as well as all the UK soft drinks in plastic bottles. Results range in size from 40 – 50 microns (less than the diameter of the average human hair). In fact, the program highlighted that many of us are unwittingly eating and drinking the equivalent of a credit card a week in microplastics.

These findings just highlight the sheer scale of the problem of microplastics being found in our water and food chain.

The Impact

Although not yet proven to be harmful to human health, microplastics can be harmful to our oceans, aquatic life, and the environment.

“Across our terrestrial and marine environments, microplastics have been found in most places where scientists have looked, including some of the most remote spots on Earth, threatening and, in some cases killing, wildlife.”

The Guardian, May 2021

It is shocking to think that microplastics are threatening our planet and wildlife. They are adding to the evergrowing pollution of our planet and this is something that we all need help reduce.

Thankfully, there is a solution that we can all use to access safe water wherever we are

Water-to-Go filters can remove microplastics from water

However, the perfect way to filter out microplastics wherever you are is by using a Water-to-Go bottle. Our filters reduce the pore size to under 2 microns meaning they will trap and remove microplastics, as well as microbiological contaminants from any tap or non-saltwater source.

You can simply fill up your bottle and the filter will remove microplastics and contaminants as you drink. This will greatly reduce the amount of microplastic that you ingest and will mean you are doing your bit for the planet
