Press and Media
A brief history
Before Water-to-Go, Dave Shanks and co-founder Cheryl Farrell, headed a textiles company that manufactured and distributed clothing brands across the World. Dave made frequent trips to India, Indonesia and China and was aghast to see ever growing mountains of plastic waste whenever he visited an industrial area. A large contributor to the problem was discarded single-use water bottles.
Work began on advancing a technology that was originally developed for NASA. From this, the Water-to-Go ‘3-in-1 nanotechnology Filters’ were born! Combining three different technologies, the results were perfect for all outdoor pursuits and travel as all microbiological contaminants are filtered with up to 99.9999% efficiency (see testing).
Realising that here was a technology that could provide clean healthy water almost anywhere and which could also reduce the environmental damage being done was the motivation to establish the Water-to-Go brand and business. The challenge was, and still is, to create an organization that could positively communicate the benefits to the global marketplace with limited resources.
At the end of 2014, the company launched a new product line the 50cl GO! Bottle aimed at everyday use such as commuters, gym users, sports people and anyone concerned about their health. The aim is to convince consumers to use this product instead of buying expensive bottled water, and thereby reduce the damage to the environment created by single-use plastic bottles. Further new products are planned for the future.
The company has continued to grow year on year and in a very short time, has not only added distributors and retailers across the World, but also fostered partnerships with a large number of campaigning charities, some of the more recent ones ranging from Just a Drop to the African Wildlife Foundation.
Our mission is to PROTECT:
- Protect our customers’ health and well-being by offering safe, healthy water anywhere in the world.
- Protect our planet by offering an environmentally friendly reusable alternative to single-use plastic water bottles.
- Protect our customers’ finances by delivering clean water at a fraction of the cost of bottled water
Use Water-to-Go products and you’ll be healthier, wealthier and helping to make the world a better place!

Water-to-Go saves you money
It is easy to see that huge multinational marketing companies have been successful in persuading us that bottled water is cool, convenient and chic! Over 30 billion single use water bottles were consumed in Europe last year (Source: Wikipedia.org).
The prices we all pay for bottled water are around £1 or €1 for 50 cls; this more than petrol and Diesel per litre. This is not only bad for your wallet but bad for the planet too as more and more single use water bottles get into the environment (not all of them get recycled).
Water-to-Go bottles deliver pure, clean drinking water at around 5p per litre (varies according to which water bottle you use). Here are some ways in which a Water-to-Go filter water bottle can save you money:
1. Family of 4 on package holiday in Greece
You and your family of 4 are on a 2 week holiday in Greece. You each drink 3 litres of water everyday spending 1 Euro (£0.71p) on each 1 litre bottle of water.
After 14 days this amounts to 42 litres between the 4 of you; the total spent on water is £39.76.
Equivalent spent using Water-to-Go bottle at 5p per litre = £2.80.
2. Weekly Commute
You are a Commuter using the London Underground 5 days a week. Everyday you purchase a 50cl bottle of water for the trip for £1 at the corner shop.
At the end of each week you have spent £5.00 on 2.5 litres of water.
Equivalent spent using Water-to-Go bottle at 5p per litre = 12p.
3. Camping Holiday
You are away camping with the family for the week. You buy 2 multipacks of larger bottles (6 x 1.5litre bottles) from the local supermarket at £3.00 each.
You have spent £6.00 on 18 litres of water.
Equivalent spent using Water-to-Go bottle at 5p per 1 litre = 90p plus you do not have to carry the weight of a 1.5 litre bottle around with you.
4. Festival
You are at a festival to see some of your favourite bands. You purchase 2 x 50cl bottles of water at £2.00 each.
You have spent £4.00 on 1 litre of water.
Equivalent spent using Water-to-Go bottle a 5p per litre = 5p.
5. Gap Year Travel
You are on a Gap Year visiting countries where the water quality is poor. You drink 3 litres of water per day everyday for 12 months spending roughly £0.50 per litre bottle.
You have spent £547.50 on 1,095 litres over the course of the year.
Equivalent spent using a Water-to-Go travel bottle at 5p per litre = £54.75 plus you have complete confidence in the provenance of your drinking water.
6. Two Weeks Adventure Trekking with Chlorine tablets
You are trekking in a mountainous region miles away from any civilization. You use chlorine tablets to kill viruses and bacteria that cost £0.70 per litre.
At 3 litres per day over 14 days this costs you £29.40.
The equivalent spent using a Water-to-Go filter water bottle is £2.10 and you are not taking in a large dose of chlorine every day.
Not only will you save money but by reducing plastic waste, you are saving the planet as well!

Water-to-Go helps to protect the planet
What impact does drinking bottled water have on the environment?
- Unless it has been incinerated, every piece of plastic ever made still exists; Reason? Plastic takes over 500 years to degrade!
- Over 70 billion (seventy thousand million) single use plastic water bottles are consumed annually in the US and Europe alone; National Geographic estimate that a maximum of 20% are recycled. That means that over 50 billion bottles go into landfill or end up in our oceans every year.
- Fill up your bottle with oil to a fifth of its capacity to witness how much oil is used in manufacturing the bottle and shipping it to you!
- For every 1 litre of bottled water in your local supermarket, 3 litres have been used to make and ship it to you.
- Bottled water is commonly more expensive than petrol or diesel, at £1 or €1 per 50 cl bottle, compared to petrol and Diesel at £1.40 or €1.40 per litre!
- By consuming bottled water you are contributing to killing over 1 million sea birds and 100,000 mammals annually, who die by ingesting or becoming trapped in plastic waste.
- Get the taste and convenience of bottled water at a fraction of the cost.
- Get water where you are certain of the quality by filtering it yourself, help reduce plastic waste and preserve natural resources by using a Water-to-Go reusable bottle and filter!

Water-to-Go Keeps You Healthy
Our unique water filtration system protects you by removing things that are bad for you while keeping good stuff like minerals in the water that you drink. A Water-to-Go filter will:
• Remove chemicals in your tap water such as chlorine and fluoride
• Take out contamination from untreated water sources either at home or abroad
• Stop viruses, bacteria and water borne cysts entering your digestive system
• Keep you free from BPA
What Does BPA-Free Mean?
BPA (Bisphenol A) is a chemical compound found in many single-use water bottles. Medical reports show some of these plastic water bottles ‘leach’ man-made oestrogen (BPA) into its contents when the bottle is exposed to sunlight or temperatures over 60°F or 15°C. These oestrogens can lead to cancer. That means leaving a bottle in your car or outside a shop, in sunlight, starts the process!
The materials we use are LDPE and PET, specially selected materials which are FDA-approved for food and beverages. It cannot leak or taint the water and has been specifically designed to be BPA-free. This makes our products reusable, refillable and 100% recyclable.
The Health Benefits of Hydration
Water makes up around 70% of us. It helps the body function, maintaining physical and mental health. Drinking water and staying hydrated is a vital component of any good health and fitness plan.
Latest research recommends that an average adult should consume 4-6 litres of water daily. More than 80% of us fail to come close to the target: we tend to ignore water until the time we feel thirsty.
Here’s why hydration (drinking water) is good for your health:
Hydration keeps you active
Water is necessary for the body. It is the one thing that can keep you going for an extended period without feeling tired. According to experts, drinking water at regular intervals can help improve alertness and helps keep the body active. Taking in water periodically forces the body to recalibrate the electrolytic balance of fluids in the body for optimum use.
Hydration helps in detoxification
Our body is a machine that works by continuously breaking down complex chemical compounds into simpler forms and converting them to energy. The entire process of assimilation of nutrients consumed by the body produces a number of toxins and waste products. These accumulate in the body and are then excreted out in a number of ways. As you sip a glass of water, you are giving your system the additional buffer to reduce the effect of toxins, process them and then flush these waste products away.
Hydration slows aging
The self-regulatory mechanism of our bodies performs much more efficiently when all the components it needs are there for it to use. Drinking plenty of water is good for the skin, and healthy skin is a sign of looking younger.
Since water helps in removing toxins from the system, problems like acne and excessive oil accumulation in the skin pores, are much more easily dealt with by a better hydrated body.
Hydration helps in regulating body temperature
Thermoregulation is the process of keeping the body within an optimal temperature range, so that it is neither too hot nor too cold. The most obvious example is sweating, where water is pumped through the skin and then the body’s heat energy helps evaporate the sweat. This has a cooling effect that lowers body temperature.
Water is an essential component for the body’s methods of thermoregulation.
Hydration helps improve digestion
Feeding the body the nutrients it requires to function (digestion) uses water at every stage. A lack of water results in less efficient assimilation of food and less effective of the body’s energy stores. Drink more water and you will better process fat. With more energy you will feel better too.
Hydration improves brain function
The human brain works by generating and replicating electrical impulses. This entire system functions using the electrolyte ions present in the body. Electrolyte ions are made available in fluids that are primarily water. The brain is more water than almost any other organ (roughly 80% water in composition) so having access to water from the body helps it to work in the best possible manner.
So there are at least 6 reasons why being fully hydrated makes you healthier. Having a Water-to-Go filter bottle at hand supports you in staying hydrated, taking out a huge range of things that are bad for you whilst allowing you to drink healthy water wherever you are.
